Overview
O Direito de Nascer is a Brazilian telenovela produced by JPO Produções and broadcast by SBT from May 21 to October 2, 2001. Based on the Cuban radio serial El Derecho de Nacer (1940), written by Félix B. Caignet, it was adapted by Aziz Bajur, with collaboration from Jayme Camargo and Alcione Carvalho. Directed by Roberto Talma and José Paulo Vallone, the telenovela stars Guilhermina Guinle, João Vitti, Dhu Moraes, Jorge Pontual, Ana Cecília Costa, Luiz Guilherme, Elaine Cristina, and Esther Góes. Set in Havana at the beginning of the 20th century, the story follows Maria Helena, a young woman who becomes pregnant after being abandoned by her fiancé. Afraid of her powerful father's reaction, she gives birth in secret and entrusts her son to the maid Dolores. Raised away from his family, Alberto grows up to become a doctor, unaware of his true origins. Years later, the revelation of his past brings conflicts, forgiveness, and the chance for reconciliation.
